SMOG CHECK BASICS...101

How can my vehicle have the BEST CHANCE TO PASS the California Enhanced Smog Test the first time? Remember, this is a test and a poor results could cost you big time aggrevation, so prepare your vehicle to have the best chance to pass, but remember if your DMV renewal notice requires your inspection at a "TEST ONLY" or you meet the "low income standard", don't spend too much of your own money because California is there to help you pay for repairs, if necessary!

On the other hand, if you just bought the vehicle without getting the smog certificate from the seller, you might want to pay closer attention to the items below.....

Clean OIL is important.

Consider checking to see if your vehicle needs a TUNE UP if and when required by the manufacturer. This might include servicing spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and wires and fuel filter.

Check your AIR FILTER and replace it according to the manufacturers' service guidelines.

AVOID getting tested in HOT WEATHER if possible, it could have an impact on the test results. Morning or evening temps are ideal and "wetter is better" hint, hint.

Check your TIRE PRESSURE to see if they are properly inflated. There is a maximum inflation specification listed on the tire. Pump them up but never exceed the maximum specification and if you forget, don't worry, I always look to see if they look ok and will take care of it for you, when required!

Come with a few dollars of HIGH QUALITY PREMIUM GAS in the tank which you put in on a nearly empty tank on the day of the test if that is the fuel your model requires.
